E + R = O
We were all herded into the Conference Room for an important "motivational talk". Attendance is compulsory. Means that Boss really had something important to say. Also means that I shouldn't sleep / switch off / dream away as I would usually (or inevitably) do when it comes to sitting around a big table discussing (yak yak yak) issues. Remind to self: do NOT bring along the head support pillow.

Turns out that Boss was very keen to share with us what he had learned from some course he had attended.

Turns out too that I cannot withstand the unrelenting onslaught of the ZzzZZZzz monster and was fighting a terrible, losing battle. Resistance was futile, but in between nods of comprehension and nodding to fall asleep, I managed (awesome me!) to retain this cryptic info:

E + R = O

wadahell? Events + Responses = Outcome. Boss was telling us that whatever "Events" or happenings that befall us, our own responses(R) to such events will determine the outcome(O). So, if you want to change the outcome, you will have to control / decide / manage your RESPONSES to the Events. I assume of cos, events here is "given", non-negotiable and dependants only on outside forces.

Example : Boss Give Work (E) + I Refused To Do Work & Tell Him To Shove Up...(R) = I Am Unemployed (O)

Hmmm....Perhaps I am always trying to change E rather than R. And O usually equals to F (Fantasy)
