Old vs Young Part I
Another office conversation...
ME: Eh Boss, why can't we have something like the Lifetime Achievement Award?
BOSS: What the hell is that?
ME: You know, like the one Brian Richmond got for all the donkey years he put in for his radio works...
BOSS: And what is the purpose?
ME: Well...to recognise the long and loyal service from older people like me in the Department...
BOSS: And why would we want to do that?
ME: To retain...ummm...oh OK.
For the price of one old person you can actually get 2 new, young, highly educated person to slog and do your bidding. Cut cost and increase productivity (assuming young can produce more than old, ceteris paribus). When the economy is down the math becomes simpler.
